Clinic Policies

Below you can find various policies for the various services that we offer. Please be sure to read through the policy in it’s entirety, as there may be additional fees or actions associated with certain services.

Urgent Care Policy

For pets needing immediate attention EMVS offers Urgent Care. Urgent care is offered during business hours. The pet is dropped off and triaged by the DVM. The care is worked in between appointments. Depending on the time of drop off and diagnosis, your pet may have to stay overnight. If it was not medically necessary to stay overnight, and was due to office hours, EMVS will waive the hospitalization fee.

A $100.00 deposit is required at time of drop off. After hour emergencies deposit is $175. There will be a $45.00 urgent care fee in addition to services rendered. This is to cover the cost of employees staying beyond scheduled hours. If a client does not consent to their pet staying overnight, and treatments needs to be expedited, the client will be charged an additional $125.00 emergency fee. Bill is due upon discharge. SX deposit is $50.

Clients will be updated daily or when their pet is ready for discharge. We request your patience as we provide top notch medical care for your loved one. Please refrain from excessive phone calls and do not arrive without prior notification.

Please allow 20 minutes for the on call DVM to return your call. If your call is not returned after 20 minutes we are on another emergency. If your pet is critical, seek other available services after 20 minutes.

The emergency fee is $125.00 plus services rendered. Emergency house calls will be charged $125.00 emergency fee, $65.00 house call fee, and services rendered. Please note, house calls may not be available and treatment in the hospital is recommended. If your pet needs to be hospitalized a $100.00 deposit will be required and then applied to your charges.

Call the office at 505-286-0760 and request a house call. Leave your name, phone number, physical address, and what type of services you are requesting.

Dr. Dixon schedules house calls according to location. House calls may have a longer wait period to be scheduled and for the visit. Please be patient while we work to coordinate appointments geographically and in conjunction with our in-clinic appointments and hospitalized patients. You will be contacted with the availability once it is determined.

On the day of your visit please allow a four-hour window from your appointment time for our arrival. Delays are unexpected and can occur due to emergencies, additional care needed at prior appointments, weather, etc. We will give you the same time and care as the clients before you. We understand your time is valuable. Unfortunately, cancellations may happen due to emergency needs if priority.

Please note: If you wish to add on additional patients or services after your appointment has been schedule, please contact EMVS for authorization. This will alter appointment times and can create delays for other clients. If items are added without prior approval clients may incur an additional add on fee.

Visitation

We understand being away from your pet can be difficult. If your pet is being hospitalized, we offer visitation Monday-Friday 9:00 am – 4:00 pm if a room is available. We recommend calling ahead to schedule your visitation. Staff can help you pick a time that will minimize your wait. One visit is allowed per visitation day to allow your pet time to heal and give all clients equal opportunity to visit their loved ones.

If you are visiting a large animal, please check in at the front desk and a technician will escort you back.

If the patient’s diagnosis is contagious (such as parvovirus) visitation may be restricted to ensure the health and well being of other hospitalized patients.

Surgery

Surgery is performed on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Call 505-286-0760 to schedule your pet’s procedure. The night before the procedure do not give food after 10:00 p.m. Water is not restricted the night before or day of the procedure.

You will be assigned a drop off time when you schedule the appointment. Please provide EMVS with verification of current Rabies vaccine. Proof can include a rabies tag, certificate, receipt, etc. This can be emailed prior to the procedure or provided during drop off. During drop off, EMVS will review the procedure, provide an estimate, and review optional services such as blood work. Please remove all personal items such as collars when your pet is ready to go back.

You will be called following the procedure with a pickup time or immediately in the event of an emergency. Pick up time is generally 4-6 hours from time of drop off depending on number of patients and emergencies. Please refrain from additional phone calls to check in during your pet’s procedure, our staff is devoted to patient care and limited staffing resources are designated to the phones during procedures.

During pickup, staff will review the discharge instructions with you. Safety collars are not included but are available to purchase and recommended if your pet licks at the incision site. A DVM is not always available to discuss the procedure during pick up on routine procedures. The information shared with you from the veterinary technician is from the DVM along with the doctor’s discharge instructions. Payment is due in full at time of pick up.

If your pet is undergoing a procedure which requires them to stay overnight, a deposit may be required. You will receive an update the day of surgery and another update next day informing you of your pickup time. Please wait until discharge is authorized to help minimize your wait and ensure the invoice and discharge instructions are complete.
